World Online Ranking of Best Law Scientists – 2024 Report

On April 29, 2014, Research.com published the third edition of its ranking of the leading law researchers. This report aims to enhance the visibility of distinguished scholars and researchers in the field of law and contribute to the optimization of online collaboration among researchers.
Furthermore, our report facilitates the search for legal professionals and academics by interested parties, including organizations and academic institutions. Therefore, our list can serve as a valuable resource for connecting legal professionals with businesses, organizations, and individuals with similar academic pursuits or research initiatives.
Our team analyzed over 400 profiles on OpenAlex, CrossRef, and other bibliometric sites when preparing the list for 2024. We assessed each scholar's professional history and used a variety of criteria to determine their ranking eligibility.
To qualify for inclusion in our ranking, scholars who primarily publish in law must have a D-index score of at least 40. The ranking criteria consider the D-index score, the proportion of contributions made in the relevant discipline, and the scholar's awards and accomplishments.

The United States is the country with the most scholars leading in the field of law. There are a total of 300 scholars included in our report who are affiliated with institutions in the U.S.
The United Kingdom ranks second with 56 scholars, followed by Canada (15 scholars), Australia (11 scholars), and the Netherlands (8 scholars).
The rest of the countries in the top 10 are Germany (6 scholars), Italy (5 scholars), Switzerland (3 scholars), Israel (2 scholars), and Denmark (2 scholars).

Institutions with the highest number of leading scholars
In the 2024 edition of our report, Harvard University is the leading institution with 19 scholars. It is also one of the most popular institutions for legal studies and is consistently at the top of our ranking.
Ranking second is New York University, which has 17 scholars; Yale University ranks third, with 16 scholars.
In the fourth spot is Arizona State University, which has 13 scholars. It is followed by Columbia University with 12 scholars, the University of California, Berkeley, with 11 scholars, and the University of Oxford with 11 scholars.
Other leading institutions in the top 10 include Stanford University, the University of Toronto, and the University of Chicago.

In Europe, Jonathan Jackson from the London School of Economics and Political Science, United Kingdom, leads other scholars in the region. He ranks number 26 in the world with a D-index of 59.
In Asia, Alec Stone Sweet from the University of Hong Kong, China is the leading law scholar. Professor Sweet is at the 86th spot in our world ranking with a D-index of 39.
